Common household items can be used to process hardware store chemicals into red fuming nitric acid. This acid is extremely helpful for copper and silver processing projects, and can be prepared without any proper labware.
This is not a guide nor a recommendation, just sharing my experience.

Two wine bottles can be joined with a wrap of Teflon tape to make an acid distillation setup. A coil hotplate holds a metal can of sand to evenly transfer the heat to the distillation bottle which contains dried potassium nitrate and sulfuric acid. The collection bottle is chilled with cold water.

The Teflon bridge can be made by holding the bottles close together, wrapping with Teflon tape over both and gently pulling apart to stretch the film. This connection is not pressure tight and will leak nasty gasses, however it prevents any overpressure from building. A wrap of fiberglass insulation will reduce heat loss in the reaction bottle.
